Hello! I'm Sarah

~ I design and study trustworthy systems for users moving across cultures, technologies, and borders.

I am graduating Spring 2026 and am currently on the job market, seeking research-oriented roles in computer science, information science, responsible AI, or tech policy.

I am a fifth-year PhD candidate (ABD) in Software and Information Systems at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My work sits at the intersection of Usable Privacy & Security and Human–Computer Interaction, asking how we can design systems that remain trustworthy as people and technologies move across cultures, platforms, and borders. I combine empirical studies, participatory design, and policy analysis to understand user vulnerabilities (e.g., smishing, scams, social-media risks) and to prototype human-centered, AI-assisted safeguards.

I am proud to be a part of the Security and Privacy Experiences research group (SPEX Lab) under the supervision of Dr. Cori Faklaris. I am also affiliated with the Human Centered Computing Lab (HCCLab at UNCC). Before joining UNCC, I worked as a lecturer at Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology and Northern University Bangladesh in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I earned my B.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering from Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology in 2018.

My work advances both theoretical insights into cultural and contextual differences in security practices and practical design recommendations for inclusive, trustworthy systems. I am committed to advancing usable privacy and security through empirical research, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a dedication to making technology safer and more user-friendly.

When I am not working, I enjoy painting (recently exploring oil painting!) as well as gardening and photographing old cities. I especially love capturing the stories of places with history and character!
